Bitcoin should be on Apple, Meta balance sheets: Draper

Billionaire investor Tim Draper has urged Apple and Meta to add Bitcoin to their corporate reserves, arguing that major companies could face financial risks by keeping all of their reserves in traditional assets.

Draper said large companies such as Apple and Meta should keep some Bitcoin as protection against possible problems in the global financial system. He linked his view to rising government spending and warned that continued fiscal pressure could create serious problems for the economy.

Draper suggested that businesses could keep around four weeks of operating expenses in Bitcoin, while individuals could consider holding about six months of expenses in BTC. He also argued that governments could use Bitcoin as an additional financial hedge.

According to the latest figures in the article, Apple had around $146.5 billion in cash and marketable securities as of June 27. Its reported holdings included cash, money-market funds, U.S. Treasury securities, government agency securities, corporate securities, and other traditional investments. The filing did not mention Bitcoin.

Meta had around $90.3 billion in cash and marketable securities as of June 30. Its holdings included money-market funds, U.S. government securities, agency debt, corporate debt, and marketable equities. Its latest filing also did not disclose any Bitcoin holdings.

Draper believes Bitcoin could provide companies with an asset outside the traditional banking system. He argued that having some Bitcoin exposure could offer another option if banks or traditional financial markets face serious problems.

However, his concerns about future hyperinflation or a banking crisis remain his own investment view. The financial data cited in the article show large U.S. government deficits, but they do not prove that hyperinflation or a banking crisis will happen.

Meta has already faced a shareholder proposal asking the company to study whether Bitcoin should be added to its treasury. The board recommended voting against the proposal, and shareholders rejected it at the May 2025 annual meeting.

Microsoft shareholders also rejected a similar proposal in December 2024. Only 0.55% of the votes supported the idea of assessing Bitcoin as a treasury asset.

Draper also repeated his long-standing $250,000 Bitcoin price target. He connected the prediction to future Bitcoin halvings and the reduction in new BTC supply, but the article notes that the target remains his forecast and does not have a guaranteed timeline.

For now, Apple and Meta have not announced plans to add Bitcoin to their corporate reserves. Draper’s comments were an investment recommendation made during his interview, not a sign of any policy change by either company.
