Clearstream Expands Institutional Crypto Custody Offering with Six New Digital Assets
Clearstream has broadened its institutional cryptocurrency custody service by adding six new digital assets, reflecting growing demand from financial institutions for regulated access to the digital asset market.
The expansion introduces XRP, Cardano (ADA), Solana (SOL), Litecoin (LTC), Stellar (XLM), and Avalanche (AVAX) to the platform’s custody offering. These assets join Bitcoin (BTC) and Ether (ETH), which were already available through the service.
Owned by Deutsche Börse Group, Clearstream is one of Europe’s largest post-trade and custody providers. The company said the move is designed to meet increasing institutional demand for crypto assets that comply with the European Union’s Markets in Crypto-Assets (MiCA) regulatory framework.
The custody service continues to operate through Crypto Finance, which serves as the sub-custodian. Crypto Finance holds a MiCA license, allowing it to provide regulated digital asset services across the European Union.
By leveraging Clearstream Banking S.A. in Luxembourg, institutional clients can access crypto custody through existing account structures, eliminating the need to establish separate relationships with crypto-native service providers. This approach enables banks, asset managers, brokers, and other financial institutions to integrate digital assets into familiar market infrastructure.
When the service was initially launched, Clearstream supported only Bitcoin and Ether, with plans to expand based on client demand. The latest additions demonstrate increasing institutional interest in a broader range of cryptocurrencies beyond the two largest digital assets.
The expansion comes as Europe’s crypto sector adapts to MiCA regulations, which have established a unified framework for crypto asset service providers. The regulatory clarity has encouraged greater participation from traditional financial institutions seeking secure and compliant access to digital assets.
The move also aligns with Deutsche Börse Group’s broader digital asset strategy. The group has been steadily building infrastructure for regulated crypto trading, custody, and settlement services. Recent initiatives include partnerships focused on integrating stablecoins such as USDC and EURC into its market ecosystem.
As institutional adoption continues to grow, Clearstream’s expanded custody offering highlights the increasing role of regulated financial infrastructure in supporting the next phase of digital asset market development.
