Coinbase’s x402 launches Agentic.market to expand AI agent payments

Agentic.market has launched as a new platform built on the x402 protocol, aiming to make it easier for AI agents to find services online and pay for them automatically.

The idea is simple: instead of AI agents struggling to find compatible tools and APIs across the internet, they now have a single “marketplace” where everything is already built to work together.

This project is backed by Coinbase, which has been pushing heavily into AI-driven payments.

The platform works in two ways:

  • For humans: a normal browsing-style marketplace where services can be searched and compared
  • For AI agents: a direct integration layer where they can discover services and use them automatically during tasks

One of the biggest changes is that users don’t need API keys anymore. Normally, connecting apps and services requires setup, keys, and developer access. Agentic.market removes that step, letting AI agents interact more freely with supported services.

The marketplace already includes tools and platforms like CoinGecko, Google Flights, and X, which can be accessed by AI agents through the system.

At the center of all this is the x402 protocol, which is designed specifically for AI payments. It allows AI agents to pay for services using stablecoins directly online, turning payments into something automated and machine-to-machine.

Nick Prince, who is leading the project, described it as a way to give both humans and AI agents access to thousands of services without needing manual setup or API credentials.

The system also gives AI agents what the team calls “skills” — basically pre-built instructions for how to use different services — plus a built-in wallet so they can pay and even earn money for tasks.

What makes this more significant is the level of industry support.

Major tech and payments companies, including Google, Microsoft, Amazon Web Services, Visa, Stripe, and others, have shown support for the broader x402 ecosystem. That signals growing interest in a future where AI agents don’t just assist users — they actively transact online.

In simple terms, this launch is about building the infrastructure for a new internet layer where AI agents can:

  • find services
  • use tools
  • and pay for everything automatically

without humans having to manage each step.

It’s another move toward an internet where AI systems don’t just think — they also act like independent users of the web.
