Economic expert Dr. Safwan Qusay says salaries for this month are secure and will be paid using revenues collected earlier this year.
He explained that government spending works with a delay. For example, the money collected in February is being used to cover April expenses, which is why recent regional tensions have not affected current salary payments.
Looking ahead, Qusay said there are several options available to ensure salaries continue to be paid. One of these includes using financial tools from the Central Bank, which he described as having strong reserves and solid coverage for the Iraqi dinar.
He added that the Central Bank’s financial flexibility could help cover expenses not just for May, but for several months if needed.
In simple terms, his message is reassuring: the system already has buffers in place, and salaries are not at risk in the short term.
