Egypt and Iraq have discussed ways to strengthen cooperation in digital transformation, artificial intelligence, and telecommunications during high-level talks held in Cairo.
Iraq’s Minister of Communications, Mustafa Jabbar Sanad, met with Egypt’s Minister of Communications and Information Technology, Raafat Hindi, to review plans for implementing a cooperation agreement previously signed between the two countries.
The agreement covers several areas, including digital infrastructure, digital transformation, cybersecurity, innovation, entrepreneurship, postal services, satellite technology, ICT investment, and skills development.
During the meeting, Sanad highlighted Iraq’s ongoing efforts to expand fibre-optic internet networks to homes and build new data centres across the country. He also expressed interest in benefiting from Egypt’s experience in digital transformation projects, data centre management, and the development of telecom regulations and legislation.
The two ministers also agreed to work closely together and coordinate their positions at regional and international telecommunications events and forums.
The meeting was attended by Ahmed Khafaji, Egypt’s ambassador to Baghdad, and Dr. Qahtan al-Janabi, Iraq’s ambassador to Cairo and permanent representative to the Arab League.
Several senior Iraqi officials also took part in the discussions, including representatives from the Ministry of Communications and the Iraqi Association for Information and Communications Technology.
The talks reflect ongoing efforts by both countries to deepen cooperation in technology and support the development of modern digital infrastructure and services.
