Eurasia News: US withdrawal from Iraq is out of the question

According to a report published on Wednesday by the American website Eurasia News, it is highly unlikely that, despite the secret negotiations that are taking place between the Iraqi government and the American side regarding withdrawal from Iraq, an agreement will be reached regarding a complete withdrawal from the country, as was the case with Afghanistan.

According to the report, which was translated by, “so far, there is no timetable for the departure of US forces, and the agreement between Washington and Baghdad is progressing slowly, because many factors must be considered before any final decision is made, and the United States may move away from combat operations, as the military presence evolves into a more traditional US-Iraqi security partnership,” according to the report.

“under the pretext of the ISIS threat, regional geopolitics must be taken into account, especially with regard to Iran, while the US military presence is primarily focused on Iraq,” the report added. It is naive to believe that only ISIS plays a role for the US. Instead, it must be taken into consideration that factions continue to attack it, and this will undoubtedly have an impact on American decision-makers.

He added, “The US military presence in Iraq can’t be seen in disengagement from others, and if the US needs to proceed with its tactical presence in northern Syria, it should keep a tactical presence in Iraq for strategic reasons.”

“Washington and Baghdad may want to coordinate with NATO, and many may not realize that NATO is conducting a training mission in Iraq and that relations between Iraq and NATO have deepened in recent years,” the report stated. General Michael Kurilla, top of the US Headquarters, advised Congress this year that any choice to pull out US powers from Iraq would be made in close coordination with NATO.”

The report focused on that “in view of this large number of variables, obviously a US withdrawal from Iraq inside a practical time period won’t occur at any point in the near future, and there has been some discussion of focusing on the finish of this current year, however international conditions and strategic difficulties make this far-fetched, if not untrustworthy.” As indicated by the report.
