Iraq and Kyrgyzstan are moving forward with plans to strengthen transportation and trade cooperation, with Kyrgyzstan preparing a draft agreement covering both freight and passenger transport for Iraq’s review.
According to Iraq’s Ministry of Transport, the proposal was discussed during a videoconference between officials from both countries. The talks focused on facilitating the movement of goods and travelers while expanding economic links between Central Asia and the Gulf region.
One of the main topics was allowing Kyrgyz trucks to transit through Iraqi territory on their way to Gulf countries. Officials also discussed simplifying customs and technical procedures at border crossings to reduce delays, lower transportation costs, and improve the efficiency of cross-border trade.
The Iraqi Ministry of Transport said such cooperation would help strengthen Iraq’s role as a major trade corridor connecting Central Asia with regional markets. By improving transit routes and reducing logistical barriers, Iraq hopes to attract more international cargo traffic through its territory.
The planned agreement is expected to be reviewed and discussed further during upcoming meetings between the two sides. If finalized, it could open new opportunities for trade, transportation, and economic cooperation while supporting Iraq’s broader goal of becoming a key regional transportation hub.
Officials believe that improving transport links and facilitating the movement of goods across borders will benefit both countries and contribute to stronger commercial ties between Central Asia and the Middle East.
