The first phase of the central processing facility in the Al-Faihaa oilfield in the southern Iraqi governorate of Basra was officially opened by the Iraqi Minister of Oil, Hayan Abdul-Ghani.
In a statement, Abdul-Ghani stated that the move signifies the transition of Al-Faihaa from an exploration site to a production oil field with a capacity of 100,000 barrels per day. Three reservoirs—Al-Yamama, Mishrif, and Al-Zubair—will supply crude oil to the Al-Faihaa oilfield in order to produce oil.
In order to make use of the associated gas that comes from the oilfield, Abdul-Ghani emphasized that the ministry intends to construct a gas processing facility that can produce 125 million cubic feet per day by the end of 2024.
According to GlobalData, which keeps track of more than 34,000 operational and developing oil and gas fields worldwide, the oilfield is owned by Egyptian General Petroleum, Emirates National Oil, and United Energy Group.
Mohammed Taher, the director of the Al-Faihaa oilfield, said in a statement earlier in July that oil production from the 36 producing oil wells on the border with Iran will increase to 100,000 barrels per day in August.
