A delegation from Iraq’s Ministry of Trade met with officials from the International Trade Centre (ITC) in Geneva to discuss ways to strengthen cooperation and support Iraq’s efforts to join the World Trade Organization (WTO).
The Iraqi delegation, accompanied by representatives from Iraq’s Permanent Mission to the United Nations and international organizations in Geneva, focused on expanding technical assistance, training, and capacity-building programs needed to meet WTO membership requirements.
The discussions also covered developing Iraq’s trade policies, improving the business and investment climate, and benefiting from ITC programs related to trade facilitation and digital transformation.
ITC officials expressed their support for Iraq’s ongoing economic reform efforts and its goal of integrating more closely into the global trading system.
The Iraqi delegation is continuing its meetings in Geneva with WTO officials and member countries as part of efforts to move the accession process forward.
Iraq was represented at the talks by Riyad Fakhir Al-Hashimi, Director-General of the Directorate of Foreign Economic Relations at the Ministry of Trade.
The meetings are part of Iraq’s broader efforts to modernize its economy, attract investment, and complete the steps required for WTO membership.
