Iraqi Parliament Speaker Mohammed al-Halbousi has wrapped up an official visit to Jordan, where he held a series of meetings focused on expanding cooperation between the two countries in key sectors such as energy, trade, investment, and transportation.
During the visit, al-Halbousi met with King Abdullah II, Jordanian House Speaker Mazen al-Qadi, Prime Minister Dr. Jafar Hassan, and Senate President Faisal al-Fayez.
One of the main topics discussed was strengthening economic ties and moving forward with major joint projects. In his meeting with Senate President al-Fayez, al-Halbousi emphasized the importance of advancing the Basra-Aqaba Oil Pipeline project, which would help Iraq diversify its oil export routes and reduce dependence on a limited number of outlets.
He also highlighted the potential benefits of using Jordan’s excess electricity generation capacity to support Iraq’s energy needs.
For his part, al-Fayez called for faster implementation of existing agreements between the two countries. He stressed the importance of increasing joint investments and completing major strategic projects, especially the oil pipeline and the electricity interconnection project.
The discussions reflected a shared commitment by both Iraq and Jordan to deepen economic cooperation and strengthen regional connectivity through long-term infrastructure and energy partnerships.
