Iraq Launches First Electronic Visa Service Abroad

The Embassy of Iraq in Ankara has officially started issuing electronic visas — the first time this system is being used outside Iraq.

The launch was attended by Ambassador Majid Al-Lajmawi and Nashat Ibrahim Al-Khafaji, the Director General of the Directorate of Civil Status, Passports, and Residence.

This move is part of a joint effort by the Ministries of Foreign Affairs and Interior to modernize consular services and push forward with digital transformation. The new system aims to make the visa process easier for Turkish citizens, cut down waiting times, and offer a smoother, more reliable service.

Officials said the electronic visa system will make the process faster and more efficient, while also boosting trust in the services provided to visitors.
