Justice: International agreements for the exchange of convicts

The Ministry of Justice intends to finish worldwide agreements to exchange convicts as part of its efforts to put into effect human rights requirements inside its correctional departments.

Murad Al-Saadi, Director of the Ministry’s Media department, advised dinaropinions.com: “The Ministry seeks to beautify worldwide judicial cooperation thru agreements that allow the transfer of overseas convicts to their international locations to serve their sentences.”

He mentioned that “the strategies for the prisoner exchange agreement with Azerbaijan are close to being completed, given the presence of a number of prisoners of this nationality in Iraqi prisons.”

He added that “those agreements goal to reduce overcrowding in prisons and provide a higher surroundings for convicts through allowing them to serve their sentences near their families,” indicating that “the difficulty of kids accompanying overseas woman prisoners constitutes a humanitarian assignment that calls for international criminal answers, given the presence of dozens of youngsters of overseas nationalities in correctional prisons, which the ministry is working to deal with via improving worldwide cooperation.”
