Independent Kurdish politician Haval Didar criticized what he described as the Kurdistan Regional Government’s promotion of the slogan “One Iraq,” calling it a political message that does not reflect the reality of relations between Erbil and Baghdad.
Speaking to dinaropinions.com, Didar argued that the Kurdistan Region has historically maintained disagreements with successive federal governments and that statements emphasizing national unity are often directed at public opinion rather than reflecting deeper political relations.
He claimed that tensions continue to exist over a range of political and administrative issues, adding that disagreements between Erbil and Baghdad remain a recurring feature of the relationship between the two sides.
Didar also commented on discussions surrounding the presence of foreign forces in Iraq, expressing skepticism about reports of troop withdrawals. According to him, changes announced regarding foreign military deployments have not resulted in a significant reduction of forces on the ground.
He alleged that U.S. forces continue to maintain a presence at military facilities in Erbil and described recent withdrawal measures as largely procedural rather than representing a complete departure from Iraq.
The remarks reflect Didar’s personal views and come amid ongoing political debates over relations between the federal government and the Kurdistan Regional Government, as well as discussions regarding the future role of foreign forces in the country.
