Iraq and Jordan have reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening economic ties after senior officials from both countries met to discuss industrial cooperation, trade expansion, and progress on major joint projects.
Iraq’s Minister of Industry and Minerals, Mohammed Nouri, welcomed Jordan’s Minister of Industry, Trade and Supply, Yarub Qudah, along with an accompanying delegation, for talks aimed at deepening cooperation between the two neighboring countries.
During the meeting, the two sides reviewed opportunities to expand industrial and commercial partnerships and increase coordination on projects that serve the economic interests of both Iraq and Jordan.
A key topic of discussion was the Iraqi-Jordanian Economic City project, a major joint initiative designed to boost investment, support industrial development, and create new economic opportunities on the border between the two countries.
Both ministers emphasized the importance of overcoming challenges facing the project and accelerating its implementation, describing it as a strategic development that could strengthen regional trade and industrial activity.
The discussions also included preparations for the 31st session of the Iraqi-Jordanian Joint Committee, which is expected to be held in Baghdad in the coming period. The two sides stressed the importance of activating the committee’s work to improve coordination and communication between government agencies in both countries.
In addition, officials explored ways to increase trade volumes, attract investment, and create new opportunities for private-sector participation in economic projects.
The ministers agreed that stronger cooperation between Iraqi and Jordanian businesses could play an important role in supporting economic growth and expanding commercial ties.
The Iraqi-Jordanian Economic City project has been under development for several years. In 2023, the Iraqi Jordanian Company for Industry invited companies to review tender documents related to the project’s development, marking another step toward the establishment of a joint economic and industrial zone.
The latest meeting reflects ongoing efforts by Baghdad and Amman to deepen their economic partnership and promote long-term cooperation in trade, industry, investment, and infrastructure development.
