The GOI Finance Committee has at least authorized and agreed to proceed with the removal of the zeros, and there is a VERY STRONG emphasis that this will happen. The new law to do so must now be passed by parliament. The CBI must then inform us that they are proceeding. The CBI did send a representative to a crucial meeting with Al-Zaidi and the head of the Finance Committee to negotiate revisions to a long-standing statute to eliminate the zeros, but we do not yet have confirmation for these last sections because this good news just broke. The statute needs to be amended, and it has already been sent to parliament for execution. [First of two posts—stay tuned]
