Water releases from the Mosul Dam into the Tigris River have increased to 800 cubic meters per second, according to an informed source.

The source said the release rate was raised from 500 cubic meters per second, marking the first increase in the past three days. The decision came after water inflows from Turkey improved, allowing authorities to release more water downstream.

According to the source, dam operations are being managed based on balancing incoming water with available storage capacity. Any surplus water is released into the Tigris River, where it continues toward the Samarra Dam.

The source added that water exceeding the river’s immediate needs is diverted to the Tharthar Depression, which serves as a strategic reserve for the Tigris River basin.

Officials are continuing to monitor daily water inflows, and the current increase is considered temporary. Water releases could be raised further or reduced in the coming days depending on changes in inflow levels and overall water management requirements.
