Iraqi MP Amer Abdul-Jabbar said on Saturday that serious violations have been found in the final government accounts approved by Parliament for previous years, stressing that lawmakers should not approve them until all issues are fully reviewed and addressed.
Abdul-Jabbar said the final accounts contain many financial and administrative irregularities that cannot be ignored. He emphasized that Parliament has a responsibility to carefully examine these files before taking any step toward ratifying them.
According to him, approving the final accounts in their current form would be unacceptable because of the violations and concerns that have already been identified. He argued that those responsible for any wrongdoing must be held accountable before the accounts receive parliamentary approval.
The lawmaker also called for a stronger oversight role for Parliament, saying that transparency in the management of public funds is essential. He stressed that no final accounts should be passed until all violations have been investigated and properly resolved.
His remarks reflect growing concerns among some lawmakers about financial accountability and the need for greater scrutiny of government spending and administrative procedures.
