MP Ali Hafez accused the Speaker of Parliament and several political groups on Tuesday of turning the cabinet confidence session into a platform for political disputes, warning that this could harm the work and reputation of Parliament.
Hafez said the Speaker of Parliament, by siding with certain political parties, intentionally worked to block the approval of several ministers in Prime Minister Ali al-Zaidi’s cabinet. He said the actions were driven by political rivalries rather than the country’s interests.
He added that bringing political conflicts into the process of forming the government only delays reconstruction projects and public services. Hafez also called on political parties and the Speaker of Parliament to stay away from practices that weaken Parliament and disrupt its procedures.
Earlier, MP Ibtisam al-Hilali from the State of Law Coalition accused the alliances of Mohammed al-Halbousi and Mohammed Shia al-Sudani of working with other political groups to delay the final approval of candidates for the Interior and Higher Education ministries in Prime Minister Ali Faleh al-Zubaidi’s government.
