New government clarification regarding salary deductions in support of Gaza and Lebanon

The government clarified concerning the deduction of 1% from the salaries of employees and retirees in support of Gaza and Lebanon.

government spokesman Bassem Al-Awadi stated in a televised announcement: “Deducting 1% of salaries is not obligatory, but rather voluntary,” indicating that “the salaries of personnel and retirees are constitutionally blanketed, and the choice to deduct is absolutely elective.”

He pointed out that “the ceasefire is an essential step that has kept us faraway from a comprehensive warfare,” stressing that “the ceasefire in Lebanon can be the premise for a ceasefire in Gaza.”

Al-Awadi noted that “Iraq performed a pivotal and crucial position in coordination among countries and is a key to reaching the results of the ceasefire, and our assistance to Gaza and Lebanon will keep until stability is finished.”

He careworn that “Iraq will make a contribution to the reconstruction of Lebanon and Gaza.”

The Council of Ministers authorized, in its session the previous day, Tuesday, amending its choice concerning the voluntary deduction of (1%) from the income, allowances, and retirement pension, to be for a length of 6 months handiest, starting from December 1, 2024, and for those wishing to donate handiest, on the way to assist the Palestinian and Lebanese peoples.
