The Basra Cement Plant has started producing two new types of cement as part of efforts to expand local manufacturing and meet growing market demand.
The first product is limestone cement, which is made according to Iraqi standard specifications. This type of cement is mainly used for finishing, plastering, and other construction works, and it is available in several grades to suit different project needs.
The plant, which is operated by the General Company for Iraqi Cement under the Ministry of Industry and Minerals, has also begun producing samples of API Class G oil-well cement. This specialized cement is widely used in the oil and gas industry for drilling and well construction projects.
The production of oil-well cement comes after the plant received certification from the American Petroleum Institute (API), along with international quality certifications. These approvals confirm that the product meets global industry standards.
Officials say the goal is to supply oil companies operating in Iraq, reduce dependence on imported materials, and strengthen domestic industrial production. The move is expected to support both the construction sector and the country’s vital oil industry while creating greater opportunities for local manufacturing.
