Official: The issue of Iraq’s accession to the World Trade Organization is coming soon

Sattar Al-Jabri, Undersecretary of the Minister of Commerce, stated on Tuesday that Iraq’s entrance to the World Trade Organization was soon, and he emphasized that the present federal government will attain self-sufficiency and not rely on imports.

This occurred during his hosting of a discussion session on the fringes of the seventh session of the activities of the third day of the Al-Rafidain Forum 2024 – Baghdad, entitled “Humanizing the Global Economy.”

During the hosting, Al-Jabri stated that the Iraqi government’s curriculum is based on a strategy to keep up with global economic developments, as the government has signed bilateral international memorandums of understanding in trade and economics.

He went on to say that “Iraq is seeking to enter the World Trade Organization, and the issue is coming soon.”

The Iraqi government official addressed the issue of import and export, stating that there is no trade balance between exported and imported products since the monetary mass is moving to other countries, which the present administration intends to solve by depending on self-sufficiency.

The Kingdom of Saudi Arabia declared its support for Iraq’s entrance to the World Trade Organization in early 2024, particularly once the political impediments that had previously hindered it were overcome.
