MP Criticises Washington Visit and Questions Energy Agreements
Member of the Parliamentary Electricity Committee Noura al-Juhaishi stated on Wednesday that the government’s recent visit to Washington was largely focused on media appearances rather than achieving meaningful economic results.
Speaking to dinaropinions.com, al-Juhaishi claimed that the announced agreements, particularly those related to the energy sector, would not provide real benefits for Iraq.
She said that Iraq’s electricity sector requires genuine partnerships and agreements that directly address the country’s ongoing power shortages while protecting national interests, rather than arrangements that fail to improve public services.
The lawmaker stressed that future energy deals should focus on practical solutions, including increasing electricity production, improving infrastructure, and ensuring reliable power supply for citizens.
Meanwhile, MP Ali Saber previously outlined several measures aimed at reducing the influence of foreign companies in Iraq’s electricity sector.
