A member of Iraq’s Parliamentary Finance Committee, Amer Nasrallah, said on Monday that the salaries of government employees, retirees, and military personnel are secure for the coming months.
Nasrallah explained that there are several financial sources available to make sure these payments continue without interruption.
He also said that the agreement between Baghdad and Ankara to increase oil exports through Turkey’s Ceyhan port is expected to bring in more revenue for Iraq over the next few months, even though the country is still dealing with a budget deficit.
According to Nasrallah, the government is moving forward with preparing the 2027 federal budget. He expects the draft budget to be sent to Parliament in October so lawmakers can review and approve it through the normal constitutional process.
He added that Iraq needs to focus more on increasing non-oil revenues and improving the way financial resources are managed. In his view, these steps are important for maintaining financial stability and ensuring the government can continue meeting its key obligations.
