Political movement: Al-Halbousi lost the pressure tools to pass his candidate for the presidency of Parliament

A political movement confirmed on Tuesday that Al-Halbousi lost his leverage to secure his candidate for the House of Representatives presidency.

During an interview, Muhammad Al-Khalidi, the Secretary-General of Bayariq Al-Khair, stated that seven names have been proposed for the position of Speaker of the House of Representatives. However, there are indications that 3-4 of the proposed candidates may decide to retreat due to the need for more political support to proceed to a session. The House of Representatives is expected to meet next week.

“He said, ‘Al-Halbousi no longer has the necessary leverage to ensure that his candidate for the presidency of the House of Representatives is elected, especially since there are other options available to select a consensus candidate who can independently manage the sessions of the House of Representatives.'”

“He informed me that the framework forces are going to hold an important meeting at the end of this week to decide their direction on the list of names. However, there are some differences in opinions about some of the names. He also mentioned that the Sunni forces will intensify their dialogues to push towards a consensual candidate and bring the date of the decisive session closer.”

Al-Halbousi has not reached a consensus on any of the Asmaa candidates for the Speaker of the House of Representatives position, despite his alliance with the rest of the Sunni forces.
