Reset Intelligence: Trump’s Envoy Is Back in Baghdad.
By Reset Intelligence | @EXIT_FIAT
2 days after America voted, Trump phoned Iraq’s prime minister. About an hour later his envoy, Tom Barrack, was sitting in the prime minister’s office in Baghdad.
Congress changed hands this week. Washington’s work on Iraq did not stop for it.
The envoy
Prime Minister Ali al-Zaidi received Barrack, whom his office calls Trump’s Special Envoy to Iraq, on Thursday. They went over relations between the 2 countries and “expanding economic and investment cooperation.” Barrack then saw Faiq Zaidan, who heads Iraq’s Supreme Judicial Council. It is the third time Barrack has walked that route, prime minister first, then the judiciary: June 15, October 12, and now.
What else moved
- ExxonMobil – the company’s Middle East representative sat with al-Zaidi, the oil minister and Iraq’s ambassador to Washington on Thursday, on raising crude output, exports and refining. Al-Zaidi also pledged to clear the way for a pipeline to Mediterranean and Red Sea ports, a route that avoids the Strait of Hormuz.
- Iraq’s airspace – a notice to pilots citing “military activity” runs Saturday to Wednesday, 8am to 2pm Baghdad time, moving traffic onto fixed routes. Foreign Minister Fuad Hussein said the war between America and Iran is not over. Trump says his decision on Iran is coming soon.
- Wall Street – about $2.5 trillion was wiped off American stocks on Thursday. The S&P 500 fell 4.36% and the Dow 1,833 points. The White House blamed the election result. Trump had warned that a Democratic win would bring a depression “much like 1929.”
- Saturday – Baghdad’s cabinet is scheduled to sit on next year’s budget, the first full budget put to a vote since 2023.
- Baghdad’s street – closed Thursday near 168,300 IQD for $100, against the official 152,000.
The question
If the vote was meant to slow Washington down on Iraq, why was Trump’s envoy back in Baghdad 2 days later?
That is the short version. What the envoy’s route tells you, where the oil money is heading, and why losing the House moves Iraq up Trump’s list – that is the daily read.
