Ripple has renewed its support for New York University Abu Dhabi’s blockchain research program, extending its partnership under the University Blockchain Research Initiative (UBRI) through 2027.
The renewed agreement will continue funding research and educational programs led by professors Raša Karapandža and Yaw Nyarko at NYU Abu Dhabi’s Center for Technology, Economics and Development. While the university did not disclose the amount of the latest grant, Ripple previously stated that its total funding for the partnership had exceeded $1 million as of 2024.
The next phase of the collaboration will focus on exploring how blockchain and other decentralized technologies can improve market efficiency, reduce trade barriers, and expand economic opportunities. The funding will also support fintech education, startup development, and events that bring together researchers, industry leaders, and policymakers.
Students at NYU Abu Dhabi will continue working with the XRP Ledger through classroom projects and practical research activities. Ripple described the university as an important center for blockchain research and innovation in the Middle East.
One of the key projects supported by the partnership is the Volta Initiative, a blockchain-powered mobile application designed to help smallholder farmers in Ghana trade more efficiently. Researchers plan to expand the project into additional regions and explore new financial tools such as credit and risk management solutions.
According to the university, the goal is to study whether blockchain technology can reduce information gaps, improve trust, and create more efficient economic systems. The program will also continue offering hands-on fintech courses where students design and test blockchain-based applications and business ideas.
The renewed partnership comes as Ripple continues to expand its presence across the United Arab Emirates. In recent years, the company has increased its operations in the region, opened a larger headquarters in Dubai, and strengthened its regulatory and business footprint.
With the new funding, Ripple and NYU Abu Dhabi will continue their research, education, and innovation efforts through 2027, with a focus on real-world blockchain applications and developing the next generation of fintech talent.
