Ripple has partnered with Water.org as the exclusive digital asset and payments partner for the nonprofit’s Get Blue campaign, a global initiative focused on expanding access to clean water and sanitation.
As part of the partnership, Ripple will provide seed funding and help move money more efficiently to local financial organizations working in developing countries. The company will use its U.S. dollar-backed stablecoin, RLUSD, to support these transfers.
Water.org, which was co-founded by actor Matt Damon and engineer Gary White, helps families gain access to safe water and sanitation through small, affordable loans. The organization estimates that more than two billion people around the world still do not have safe water available in their homes.
Through the Get Blue campaign, corporate contributions and public donations are used to support Water.org’s WaterCredit program. Local financial institutions then provide small loans that help families install water connections, pumps, toilets, and other essential sanitation systems.
Ripple says RLUSD will help speed up international transfers and reduce costs when sending funds to Water.org’s partners across different countries. The company views the partnership as another example of how blockchain technology can be used for real-world social impact beyond financial markets.
Water.org reports that its WaterCredit program has achieved a repayment rate of about 98%, allowing repaid funds to be reused to help more families over time.
The Get Blue campaign has attracted support from several major companies, including Amazon, Gap, Starbucks, Ecolab, AccuWeather, and TikTok. Many participating brands are also contributing through special promotions and fundraising efforts linked to consumer purchases.
The partnership also expands the use of RLUSD beyond trading and financial settlements. In recent years, Ripple has used the stablecoin and other blockchain-based solutions to support humanitarian and educational initiatives, including projects in Africa and the United States.
While Ripple and Water.org have not disclosed how much funding will be transferred through RLUSD or which countries will receive the first payments, both organizations say the goal is to help more families gain reliable access to clean water and sanitation services.
The collaboration highlights a growing trend of using blockchain technology and digital assets to support charitable programs and address real-world challenges on a global scale.
