Printing a banknote today typically costs between 5 to 10 cents, but for modern notes with enhanced security features, the price could rise to about 10 to 30 cents each. In Iraq, estimates suggest that around 4 to 8 billion banknotes are in circulation, which means to print these new notes at an average cost of 15 cents each, the total expense could reach as high as $1.2 billion. Beyond the printing costs, there are additional expenses to consider, such as designing the new notes, shipping them, insurance, and storing them. Moreover, recalibrating every ATM in Iraq could add another $100 to $300 million to the total cost.
