Thaer Al-Jubouri, a member of the State of Law Coalition, denied that there was a political consensus regarding who should be the Speaker of the House of Representatives.
“The State of Law Coalition stands by Mahmoud Al-Mashhadani’s nomination for the presidency of the Council of Representatives, in light of the fact that it is still unknown whether there is a parliamentary consensus to resolve the issue or not,” Al-Jubouri stated.
He continued, “In addition to the fact that the Sunni blocs are divided among themselves regarding the candidates for the parliament presidency,” stating that “some of the Coordination Framework blocs stand with Al-Mashhadani as well, and other blocs stand against him.”
He brought up that “the most recent information shows that there is no parliamentary or political agreement on a particular competitor, so the position is at this point unclear.”
