Iraq’s President Nizar Amedi and Kurdistan Region President Nechirvan Barzani took part in the Slemani Economic Summit for Investment and Development held in Sulaymaniyah on Thursday. The event was also attended by Kurdistan Regional Government Deputy Prime Minister Qubad Talabani, government officials, economic experts and business leaders.
During his speech, President Amedi highlighted the importance of strengthening cooperation between the public and private sectors to support economic growth. He stressed that partnership between the two sectors is essential for diversifying sources of national income, fighting corruption and improving coordination between the federal government and the Kurdistan Regional Government.
Speaking to reporters after the opening ceremony, President Barzani welcomed the recent improvement in relations between the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan (PUK) and the Kurdistan Democratic Party (KDP). He expressed hope that the positive atmosphere would produce beneficial results for the region.
Barzani also stated that all Peshmerga forces have now been integrated under the Ministry of Peshmerga Affairs, adding that an official announcement regarding the process is expected in the coming days.
Regarding the formation of the new Kurdistan Regional Government cabinet, Barzani confirmed that discussions have been held between the Prime Minister and Deputy Prime Minister, as well as between the leadership of both major political parties. However, he did not provide a specific timeline for completing the cabinet formation process.
The summit focused on investment opportunities, economic development and strengthening cooperation between public institutions and the private sector, while also reflecting ongoing political efforts to enhance stability and coordination within the Kurdistan Region and Iraq as a whole.
