According to documents obtained from the Media and Communications Commission, the government has issued directives to support certain media outlets to raise awareness among citizens about a number of pressing issues facing the country. These issues include the proliferation of prohibited items, the need to conserve water and electricity, and other topics the government considers vital for communicating with the public.
The Prime Minister’s Office issued a directive to the Communications and Media Commission in June last year. The order aimed to support publishing for the benefit of state institutions and to provide the necessary funding to support the media in its various sectors. The media was encouraged to educate society about all the negative phenomena and drawbacks that threaten it, such as drug abuse, irrational use of energy and water, bribery, and support for all types of security forces. The directive also aimed to support the Iraqi dinar and other guidelines that contribute to the development of society.
