Hussein Ali Jassim, founder of the Popular Front for Combating Corruption, has called for a thorough investigation into government investment and property deals that were approved during the previous administration.
Speaking on Saturday, Jassim said several files require careful review, particularly those related to the allocation of state-owned investments and properties to political figures, including Khamis al-Khanjar and his son, Sarmad al-Khanjar.
According to Jassim, oversight bodies and judicial authorities should examine all contracts, approvals, and procedures linked to these deals to ensure they complied with Iraqi laws and regulations.
He stressed that the previous government should be held accountable for any decisions or actions connected to the granting of these investments and properties. He also called for a review of any potential cases involving the misuse of public funds or unlawful use of state assets.
Jassim emphasized that fighting corruption requires transparency and equal treatment of all cases, regardless of the individuals involved. He said all relevant files should be opened and investigated, and any violations proven through legal procedures should be referred to the judiciary for appropriate action.
He concluded by stating that accountability and the enforcement of the law are essential steps in protecting public resources and strengthening trust in state institutions.
