The United Nations Development Programme in Iraq and the Iraq Development Fund have signed a new Memorandum of Understanding aimed at strengthening cooperation on sustainable development, economic diversification, and strategic investment projects across the country.
The agreement creates a framework for joint work in several key areas, including institutional development, infrastructure projects, public-private partnerships, and support for priority economic sectors.
Under the partnership, both sides will focus on projects linked to education infrastructure, water resilience, agriculture value chains, rural investment opportunities, and private sector development, while also promoting inclusive economic growth.
Mohammed Al-Najjar said the agreement reflects Iraq’s commitment to building strategic partnerships that strengthen the country’s investment environment and support long-term economic growth.
He added that cooperation with the UNDP will help advance impactful projects, attract innovative financing opportunities, and support initiatives that provide real benefits to communities across Iraq.
Meanwhile, Sascha Graumann said the partnership highlights the shared commitment of both sides to supporting Iraq’s development priorities through stronger institutions, innovative financing methods, and inclusive investment opportunities.
The cooperation will also provide advisory support aimed at improving project planning, investment readiness, stakeholder coordination, and the implementation of future development projects.
According to the statement, the initiative aligns with the United Nations Sustainable Development Cooperation Framework, particularly in areas related to sustainable economic development, governance, climate resilience, and inclusive social development.
Both parties said the agreement reflects a shared vision to encourage innovation, strengthen partnerships, and support sustainable development pathways that benefit people across Iraq.
