Uniswap Labs has introduced Permissioned Pools on Uniswap v4, a new feature designed to support the trading of regulated tokenized assets that require identity verification and compliance checks before they can be bought, sold, or held.
The new system allows issuers of tokenized funds, securities, equities, and other regulated assets to enforce access rules directly on the blockchain. Before a user can trade or provide liquidity, the pool checks whether their wallet is on an approved allowlist managed by the asset issuer. If the wallet is not approved, the transaction is automatically blocked.
According to Uniswap, these compliance checks operate at the protocol level through Uniswap v4’s hook system, meaning the restrictions are built into the smart contracts themselves rather than relying on a website or front-end interface to enforce them.
Several major firms helped develop the new framework. Superstate, Securitize, and Dowgo worked with Uniswap to create infrastructure that supports compliant trading of tokenized financial products. The goal is to make it easier for regulated assets to access the benefits of decentralised finance while still meeting legal and regulatory requirements.
Superstate sees the technology as a way to connect tokenized stocks and investment funds with decentralised financial services such as automated market makers and lending platforms. Meanwhile, Securitize focused on making assets issued through its tokenization platform compatible with compliant on-chain trading. Dowgo contributed technology that supports identity verification and transfer restrictions for regulated securities.
Importantly, the launch does not change how the rest of Uniswap operates. Traditional Uniswap v4 pools remain fully permissionless, allowing anyone to trade without approval. Permissioned Pools simply provide an additional option for issuers whose assets must comply with regulations or investor eligibility requirements.
The launch comes as interest in tokenized real-world assets continues to grow. Over the past year, financial institutions have increasingly explored the tokenization of stocks, bonds, funds, and other traditional assets. However, many of these products require strict controls over who can own or trade them, creating a need for compliance-focused infrastructure.
Uniswap recently expanded support for tokenized securities through its applications and services, giving eligible users access to blockchain-based products linked to major companies. The new Permissioned Pools build on that effort by allowing issuers to enforce compliance rules directly within trading pools.
Supporters believe the feature could help bridge the gap between traditional finance and decentralised finance by allowing regulated assets to benefit from blockchain technology while still meeting legal requirements. However, issuers will remain responsible for complying with securities laws, investor protection rules, and other regulations in their respective jurisdictions.
The launch marks another step toward integrating regulated financial products into the broader blockchain ecosystem while maintaining the compliance standards required by traditional markets.
