Member of the Parliamentary Integrity Committee Ahmed Shaheed said on Wednesday that the Asset Recovery Law will be one of the committee’s main priorities during the upcoming legislative session, as part of ongoing efforts to fight corruption and protect public funds.
Speaking about the issue, Shaheed said the law is considered one of the most important pieces of legislation currently being pursued because it will help strengthen the country’s ability to recover public assets and support anti-corruption efforts.
He explained that the Asset Recovery Law is at the top of the committee’s agenda, alongside several other laws aimed at improving transparency, accountability, and oversight. According to him, the legislation would provide stronger legal tools to track, recover, and protect public money.
Shaheed also said that passing an effective asset recovery law is in line with the national campaign against corruption. He stressed that Iraq needs a comprehensive legal framework that supports investigations, ensures those involved in corruption cases are held accountable, and helps recover misused public funds through legal channels.
He added that the law would serve as an important part of the country’s anti-corruption strategy, supporting government efforts to strengthen integrity, increase transparency, recover stolen funds, and take legal action against anyone found guilty of misusing public resources.
