Iraq and Lebanon are advancing plans to strengthen cooperation in the maritime sector through a proposed memorandum of understanding that is currently undergoing ministerial review.

A ministerial committee recently met to examine the draft agreement, with participation from the head of the legal department and representatives of the General Company for Maritime Transport, the body responsible for overseeing the sector. During the meeting, legal and technical observations were reviewed as part of the evaluation process before the agreement moves to the next stage.

According to the Ministry of Transport, the committee is preparing a report that will be submitted to the Legal Department of the General Secretariat of the Council of Ministers for further review and comments. The memorandum will then proceed through the required legal and administrative procedures before final approval.

The proposed agreement is intended to enhance cooperation between Iraq and Lebanon in maritime transport and related activities. Officials said it forms part of broader efforts to strengthen regional partnerships, develop transportation links, and encourage the exchange of expertise and knowledge between the two countries.

The Ministry of Transport emphasized that expanding regional cooperation remains a key objective in supporting the development of Iraq’s maritime sector and improving coordination with neighboring countries on transport and logistics initiatives.
