Iraq and India have signed a memorandum of understanding aimed at strengthening trade relations and expanding cooperation between the private sectors of both countries.

The agreement was signed via video conference under the supervision of the Ministry of Trade’s Department of Foreign Economic Relations. Representing Iraq was Amer Al-Fahdawi, President of the Federation of Iraqi Chambers of Commerce, while Siddiq Ahmed, Vice President of the Indian-Arab Chamber of Commerce and Industry and Chairman of Eram Holdings, signed on behalf of the Indian side.

According to the Ministry of Trade, the memorandum is designed to enhance commercial exchange between Iraq and India and create new opportunities for economic collaboration across a range of sectors.

Riyad Fakher Al-Hashimi, Director General of the Department of Foreign Economic Relations, said the agreement reflects ongoing efforts to deepen economic ties between the two countries and encourage greater engagement between Iraqi and Indian businesses.

The memorandum is expected to facilitate closer cooperation between private-sector institutions, support investment opportunities, and contribute to expanding trade activities in areas of mutual interest.

Officials from both sides expressed optimism that the agreement will serve as a foundation for stronger business partnerships and increased economic interaction between Iraq and India in the coming years.
