Gold and precious metals continue to suffer monthly losses in global markets.

Precious metals moved lower on Wednesday and remained on track to post losses for September as investors watched upcoming US inflation data and continued to deal with financial market pressures.

Gold slipped 0.2% in spot trading to $4,170.63 per ounce. Since the start of September, the metal has lost more than 6% of its value. Meanwhile, US gold futures rose 0.5% to $4,201.90 per ounce.

Other precious metals also weakened. Silver fell 0.8% to $60.98 per ounce, while palladium dropped 0.3% to $1,219.60 per ounce.

Platinum was little changed at $1,705.10 per ounce but, like the other metals, remained on course to finish the month in negative territory.

Market participants are closely watching upcoming US inflation data, which could influence expectations for interest rates and the direction of precious metals prices in the weeks ahead.
