MP Yasser Iskandar Watout predicted on Tuesday that Iraq’s 2027 budget bill would reach Parliament by mid-October, after the Cabinet completes the required procedures.
Watout said the budget would be especially important because of Iraq’s difficult financial situation and the growing demands of different groups seeking their rights.
He explained that the bill would first go to the Parliamentary Finance Committee, which would review and discuss its provisions. After the committee votes on it, the budget would be sent to Parliament for a final vote in line with legal and constitutional procedures.
Watout acknowledged that the budget would include some difficult decisions. However, he said lawmakers would try to reach an agreement that protects the rights of all groups, particularly contract workers and others seeking better job and salary arrangements.
