Early supporters of the Sui Name Service (SuiNS) woke up to a major surprise this week, as the project rolled out a retroactive governance airdrop rewarding its most active community members.
According to an official statement released on October 31, 2025, SuiNS distributed 7.6 million $NS tokens to more than 95,000 early DAO voters. The airdrop — equivalent to the combined reward pools from the last five governance proposals — was issued as staked tokens, giving recipients instant voting power upon receipt.
Unlike traditional airdrops, there’s no claim step or transaction fee required. Eligible users can view their rewards directly through the SuiNS voting portal at vote.suins.io, eliminating gas costs and minimizing phishing risks.
🔹 How the airdrop was distributed
The reward allocation was based on:
- The number of governance proposals participated in.
- Consistency of voter engagement.
- The date of the earliest recorded vote — rewarding early and consistent contributors more heavily.
The initiative recognizes DAO members who took part in SuiNS governance between November 2024 and June 2025.
🔹 Building identity and governance on Sui
Launched in 2024, Sui Name Service serves as the onchain identity layer of the Sui blockchain, turning wallet addresses into easy-to-read “.sui” domains. These names not only simplify transactions but also function as identity markers in DAO voting, organization pages, and decentralized user profiles.
Recent upgrades include staking incentives, sub-name communities, and integrations with SuiPlay and the Cetus Protocol decentralized exchange.
SuiNS said this airdrop marks “just the beginning” of a broader initiative to strengthen the connection between onchain identity, governance, and digital reputation, forming the foundation of a community-driven identity framework across the Sui ecosystem.
