The Central Bank of Iraq said that people are using electronic payments much more than before. In the third quarter of 2025, retail payments made with local bank cards reached about 2.98 trillion Iraqi dinars, which is roughly $2.28 billion.
That’s a big jump from the same period in 2024, when electronic card payments were around 2.11 trillion dinars, or about $1.61 billion.
According to the bank, this rise shows that more people are joining the formal financial system and moving away from cash. It also reflects the growing push toward electronic payments across the country.
