306,000 barrels per day: A surge in Iraqi oil exports to America

The U.S. Energy Information Administration said on Sunday that Iraq ranked third among the biggest suppliers of crude oil to the United States last week.

According to official data, average U.S. crude oil imports from nine major countries reached 5.675 million barrels per day during the past week. This was a drop of 132,000 barrels per day compared to the previous week, when imports averaged 5.807 million barrels per day.

The report showed a sharp jump in Iraqi oil exports to the U.S. Iraq shipped an average of 306,000 barrels per day, up significantly from 75,000 barrels per day the week before. That increase of 231,000 barrels per day pushed Iraq into the position of the third-largest crude oil supplier to the United States for the week.

The figures highlight Iraq’s growing role in supplying oil to the U.S. market, even as overall American crude imports declined.
