Al-Baiji: The keys to parliamentary committees are confined to the vaults of government formation.

Mansour Al-Baiji said on Sunday that the delay in forming parliamentary committees is directly tied to the delay in forming the new government.

He explained that this situation has hurt the work of the Council of Representatives of Iraq, making it harder for Parliament to carry out its main duties — passing laws and overseeing the government.

Al-Baiji said parliamentary committees are the backbone of Parliament’s work. Without them, it becomes difficult to properly follow up on key national issues. He added that political parties are linking the completion of committee appointments to broader agreements on forming the next government.

He stressed that the current political deadlock must end quickly. According to him, ongoing delays are damaging citizens’ interests and blocking important legislation. He also called on Parliament to carry out its responsibilities without getting caught in political disputes.

Al-Baiji concluded that once the government is formed, parliamentary committees will be finalized automatically. That, he said, will restore balance to Parliament’s work and strengthen oversight of the executive branch.
