Iraq’s Ministry of Construction, Housing, and Municipalities has announced a temporary pause on housing loans.
Ministry spokesman Nabil al-Saffar said the pause will stay in place until all pending applications from 2025 are completed.
He explained that around 20,000 people received housing loans last year, and the ministry is now focusing on finishing those requests before giving out new loans.
Al-Saffar also said that the loan system and repayment rules have not changed. People can still apply through the Ur electronic platform, where applications are reviewed based on who needs help the most, taking into account each person’s social situation.
