Ahmed Al-Shammari says there is serious momentum inside parliament to finally pass Iraq’s long-delayed oil and gas law.

Speaking about the issue, he explained that lawmakers are now pushing hard to move the law forward, especially as efforts continue to form the next government. The goal is to put an end to ongoing disputes over oil management once and for all.

Al-Shammari said the law has been blocked for years due to political disagreements and deliberate delays. According to him, some groups were not willing to pass it because they feared losing control over the oil sector, which in some cases operates outside full central government oversight.

But he made it clear that the next phase will be different. “The situation of oil chaos cannot continue,” he said, stressing that there is now a strong push to bring the sector under clear legal control.

He added that the law would help organize oil revenues and make sure they are distributed in a fair and transparent way. It would also ensure that oil-producing provinces get a fair share, especially those that have long complained about not receiving what they deserve compared to how much they produce.

Al-Shammari emphasized that parliament wants to use this law to strengthen state authority over oil resources and reduce financial losses caused by years of disputes.

He also called on all political groups to set aside differences and focus on the national interest, saying that passing this law could finally resolve one of Iraq’s biggest long-standing issues.
