Iraqi financial expert Mustafa Akram Hantoush says salary reform in Iraq is possible, especially for government employees in ministries with low pay.
Hantoush explained that the issue of creating a fair salary scale has been discussed for years, with several committees and official directives formed in the past to address the problem.
According to him, one practical solution is to reduce some of the very high salaries and allowances received by senior officials, special grades, members of parliament, directors general, and certain ministries.
He said part of those deductions could then be redirected to ministries where employees receive lower salaries, such as the Ministries of Water Resources, Culture, and Education.
In his view, this approach could create more balance between government institutions and help make the salary system fairer and more realistic.
