Qatari Al-Ubaidi, the head of the agricultural associations in the western Anbar Governorate regions, called on Prime Minister Mohammed Shia Al-Sudani to get involved with the Ministry of Finance to stop the process of paying wheat and barley marketers their financial dues today, Thursday.
Al-Ubaidi stated, “Despite Al-Sudani’s instructions to the concerned authorities to pay the financial dues to the farmers when they market the wheat and barley crops, the Ministry of Finance is still obstructing the disbursement of the amounts allocated to the farmers despite the passage of five months for reasons that are not clear.” Al-Ubaidi was referring to the fact that Al-Sudani had instructed the authorities to do so.
“Hundreds of farmers have not received their financial dues despite the appeals launched by farmers to the central government to intervene in order to pay their financial dues,” he added.
“Marketing operations in all Anbar cities amounted to more than 600 thousand tons of wheat and barley crops, which is the highest marketing rate in the province in over 30 years,” he explained.
He urged the ministry to “release financial amounts to pay all marketers,” pointing out that “not receiving financial dues will lead to a decline in the agricultural situation in the governorate.”
