Iraqi Oil Minister Bassem Mohammed Khudair Al-Abadi said on Saturday that his visit to Turkey is focused on strengthening cooperation between the two countries in the oil and energy sectors and discussing ways to expand Iraq’s crude oil export options.
According to a statement from the Ministry of Oil, Al-Abadi explained that the visit is part of the Iraqi government’s efforts to enhance coordination with Turkey regarding the transportation and export of crude oil through the Iraq-Turkey pipeline to the Turkish port of Ceyhan.
He said that restarting and strengthening this export route would help increase Iraq’s export capacity and provide greater flexibility in moving crude oil to international markets.
The minister added that discussions will also cover alternative export routes that could help boost government revenues and reduce dependence on traditional export channels.
In addition, both sides are expected to discuss opportunities for new joint projects and broader cooperation in the oil, gas, and infrastructure sectors.
Al-Abadi noted that expanding energy cooperation between Iraq and Turkey serves the economic interests of both countries and can contribute to greater economic stability in the region.
The visit comes as Iraq continues to look for ways to diversify and strengthen its energy export network while maximizing oil revenues and supporting long-term economic growth.
