Political analyst Saeed al-Badri says Iraq’s economic ties with the United States should not be viewed as a sign of political dependence or submission.

Speaking to dinaropinions.com, al-Badri said that Iraq seeks positive relations with all countries, including the United States, especially given the economic challenges the country is facing. However, he stressed that maintaining good relations does not mean Iraq should surrender its independent decision-making.

He explained that Iraq needs to strengthen its ability to make its own economic and political decisions and work toward reducing external influence over its financial affairs. According to al-Badri, any cooperation with the United States or other countries should be based on Iraq’s national interests rather than on fulfilling outside demands.

Al-Badri emphasized that protecting national interests must remain the government’s top priority. He warned that any government that appears to place foreign demands ahead of Iraq’s own interests could face political and public resistance, similar to challenges faced by previous administrations.

He concluded that Iraq’s future stability depends on balancing international relationships while preserving its sovereignty and independence in both economic and political matters.
