Member of Parliament Rafiq al-Salihi has reaffirmed his support for moving forward with the Popular Mobilization Forces (PMF) law, saying Parliament will not allow any internal or external pressure to delay or block its passage.
Speaking on Wednesday, Al-Salihi said the Iraqi Parliament remains committed to advancing the legislation and intends to move ahead with the process despite any attempts to interfere with or influence lawmakers.
According to Al-Salihi, the PMF law is expected to be presented for its first reading during upcoming parliamentary sessions. He said the legislation has the backing of a majority of MPs, which he believes will help move the bill forward.
He also stressed that many members of Parliament oppose any efforts to delay the legislative process or prevent lawmakers from reaching a decision on the issue.
Al-Salihi described the law as an important step toward protecting the rights of PMF members and recognizing their role in Iraq’s fight against terrorism.
He said supporting PMF fighters and ensuring their rights are protected is both a national and moral responsibility, given the sacrifices they made while defending the country during difficult periods of conflict.
The proposed law is expected to be discussed in upcoming parliamentary sessions as lawmakers continue debating its provisions and future implementation. Forces law
